Matching opens 2026 · all of Manitoba

Lend a STEM hour. Or a season.

Manitoba doesn't have a STEM-volunteer shortage. It has a STEM-volunteer visibility shortage — willing adults who'd love to judge a robotics meet, lead a one-off workshop, or mentor a family for a season, but who never hear about the asks. CommunATI is the layer between them and the orgs that need them.

The roles

Six ways to show up.

Pick one or more. Member orgs post their asks; we match them to volunteers who said yes to those role types.

Judge

Robotics meets, science fairs, app-build competitions, design challenges. Usually a single Saturday. We give you a rubric and a clipboard.

Time: 3–6 hours, one-off

Workshop lead

You know one thing well — soldering, Python, CAD, drones, propagation, a specific game-dev engine — and you'd run a 1–2 hour intro for a group of kids if asked.

Time: 2–3 hours including prep, occasional

Long-term mentor

Paired with a kid, a small team, or a family for a school-year season. Monthly check-ins, optional in-person sessions. Vetted by the org you're matched to.

Time: 2–4 hours/month for a school year

Subject-matter helper

Member orgs ping you with short questions — "we want to teach soldering, what kit?" — and you reply when you have ten minutes. Async, low-stakes, often satisfying.

Time: as little as 15 min/quarter

Equipment loaner

You own a 3D printer, oscilloscope, soldering station, microscope, AV kit, or anything else a small org might borrow for a stretch. CommunATI tracks the loan; you don't lose your gear.

Time: drop-off + pick-up, otherwise hands-off

Indigenous-led STEM partner

If you're connected to or part of an Indigenous-led STEM program, we set up a separate intake — partner-side, not "extra volunteer." Indigenous-led programming gets routed to Indigenous-led mentors first.

Time: conversation-first

How it works

From sign-up to first ask.

1 · You tell us what you're up for

Form below. Roles, regions you'll travel to, age bands you're comfortable with, whether you want a Child Abuse Registry check on file (member orgs often require one for direct-with-kids roles).

2 · We hold your profile until an ask matches

No "volunteer dashboard" to log into every week. When a member org posts an ask that matches what you said yes to, we email you. You decline silently or take it.

3 · The member org runs the rest

The org coordinating the event handles logistics — venue, schedule, the kids in the room. CommunATI's job ends at the introduction. Yours starts there.

Reality check

What this is and isn't.

This isn't a screening service. Member orgs are responsible for their own vetting, supervision, and child-safety policies. CommunATI passes along whatever credentials you upload (resume, professional registration, Child Abuse Registry check) so the org can decide — we don't certify you.

This isn't a job board. Volunteer asks are volunteer asks. If a member org wants a paid contractor (workshop fee, honorarium for a judge slot, etc.), they'll say so in the ask and you can opt in. The default is unpaid.

This isn't going to spam you. Volunteers in Manitoba tell us the most-common reason they stop showing up is "I got tired of the asks not fitting me." We bias toward fewer, better-fit asks — and toward giving you a way to say "not this season" without disappearing.

Tell us what you're up for.

This is the early-access volunteer list — we'll reach out when matching opens (target: fall 2026). Member-org asks will come from volunteer@communati.ca with a one-line description and an opt-in link. You'll never be auto-signed-up for anything.

Want to talk first? Use the contact form instead and we'll start a conversation.
